toothache.fyi
Fuelled by pain, not your data.
- The problem
Same treatment, wildly different prices, and nowhere to compare. A check-up is £27.90 on the NHS; privately, within 6 miles of Canary Wharf, £30 to £175. A root canal: £150 to £850 in East London, £250 to £1,460 in the City and Southwark.
Dentists must show prices on their website (General Dental Council, Standard 2.4). Of 281 practices we cover, 103 do that we could find.
NHS listings flatter: when the British Dental Association phoned 100 practices listed as taking NHS patients, 1 in 10 could.
- So far
- 281 practices in six London boroughs; 795 prices at 103 of them, each checked by hand against the practice's own page.
- 137 NHS listings read every week; 65 say they're taking new patients, shown with the date they last confirmed it.
- Cost so far: £3.88 (the domain) and 1 hour a day since 19 Oct 2026. No paid services.
- What it does
- Every nearby price for the treatment you need, beside the NHS price.
- Who says they're taking NHS patients, and how long ago they said it.
- What to ask when you call; a safe way to send a photo of the tooth.
In pain now? Urgent NHS dental care is £27.90. Call 111; swelling or trouble breathing, 999.
- For agents
- People will ask their own assistant, not search sites. toothache.fyi answers assistants directly (MCP): the same dated, sourced answer as the page. Our server works today; it goes public after the weekly read. Nothing logged about who asked.
- Next
- The weekly read runs on its own; Lewisham, then Waltham Forest. Then the price index and NHS access history, sold to organisations' agents (insurers, cash plans, councils) per use. Free for anyone asking about their own teeth. Never paid for by dentists.
- Trust
- No ads, no paid placement and no money from dentists. Every price links to the practice's own page, with the date we read it.
Privacy
No cookies, trackers, analytics or accounts. The page makes no requests to any other website. Your postcode or location is used on your phone and never sent to us. Nothing is remembered between visits. A practice's website opens only when you tap its link.
